NetID Authentication Integration

Overview

Texas A&M applications and services should integrate NetID authentication when possible. This service supports various authentication technologies, including LDAP, Active Directory, CAS, Shibboleth, and Microsoft Entra ID.

Getting Started

Request

To request an integration with NetID authentication, email identity@tamu.edu with the following:

• Name, position, and office  (The individual initiating the request and their organizational details
• Technical contact (Name and NetID of TAMU Technology Services employee who will serve as the admin contact for integration)
• Supported technologies (OIDC or SAML)
• Any access restrictions (e.g., faculty, staff, students only, College Station, or other designated affiliation groups, etc.)

Service Details

Available authentication technologies include:

• LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)
• Active Directory (on-premise)
• CAS & Shibboleth (Please note: CAS and Shibboleth are being deprecated. New integrations should use Microsoft Entra ID (OIDC or SAML))
• Microsoft Entra ID (Supports both OIDC and Ye SAML protocols)

Guidelines

All applications should default to using centralized NetID authentication when feasible to support security and identity management best practices.
