Overview

Google Gemini is a web-based chat interface that provides direct access to Google AI using Large Language Models. Texas A&M campus members have access to Google Gemini with data protection, a more secure alternative to the consumer version.

Getting Started

Sign in at gemini.google.com with your @tamu.edu email address and password. Look for the shield icon in the prompt field indicating data protection.

Request

To use Google Gemini, you must be a Texas A&M student, faculty, staff, or retiree with an activated Texas A&M Google account. To learn how to request an account, visit the Claiming a Texas A&M University Gmail Account page in the Knowledge Base.

Google AI Pro is a separate product available to university employees as an add-on license for an additional fee. Purchase a Google AI Pro License in the Software Center.

Service Details

Google Gemini is an AI-powered chatbot tool that uses natural language processing and machine learning to simulate human conversations. It's designed for more natural language queries rather than keywords, providing contextual responses and handling follow-up questions.

When logged in with your Texas A&M account, data shared with Google Gemini will not be used or reviewed by humans for model improvement, ensuring university data won't be used to train or improve any generative AI models.

Guidelines

  • Login Requirements: Always sign in at gemini.google.com with your @tamu.edu email address and password
  • Data Protection Verification: Look for the shield icon in the prompt field to confirm data protection is active
  • Enterprise-Grade Protection: Submissions are not used to train models and are never reviewed by humans
  • Data Awareness: Only use approved university cloud resources when handling confidential or sensitive data
  • Chat Permanence: Gemini chats created with work/school accounts cannot be deleted
