Network Time Protocol (NTP)
Overview
The Network Time Protocol (NTP) synchronizes computers' clocks by referencing distributed time servers. Texas A&M Technology Services maintains a set of NTP servers for accurate timekeeping on and off campus.
Getting Started
Texas A&M Technology Services maintains the following four public NTP time servers.
| Server | Use |
|---|---|
| ntp1.tamu.edu | On-campus |
| ntp2.tamu.edu | On-campus |
| ntp3.tamu.edu | On-campus |
| ntppub.tamu.edu | On-campus |
For systems that only allow one server to be specified, use the name `time.tamu.edu'. This name should only be used in conjunction with DNS.
A sample ntp.conf file is available for Unix clients.
