Texas A&M University | Technology Services

Overview

Texas A&M Technology Services provides email security services for all email sent to or from @tamu.edu or any other university domain. These services include virus scanning, spam filtering, and routing through secure mail relays.

Getting Started

Mail clients like Outlook, Outlook Web App (OWA), Gmail, and Outlook for iOS/Android will automatically detect configuration settings.

Devices or servers needing manual configuration should use relay.tamu.edu for private IP addresses (recommended for printers, scanners, latency-sensitive equipment).

Service Details

  • Virus Scanning: Inbound attachments are scanned for malware. Suspicious or unscannable files are quarantined.
  • Zero-Day Detection: Suspected virus outbreak messages are held for up to 24 hours for signature updates, then rescanned.
  • Spam Filtering: Protection includes reputation filters, SPF, impostor detection, and anti-spam tools. Proofpoint quarantines unsolicited emails and sends users a bi-daily digest with management options.
