Verizon Wireless Investing in Multi-Million Dollar Project to Enhance Cellular Coverage at Texas A&M University’s Main Campus

Verizon Wireless has committed to a multi-million dollar project to improve cellular coverage across Texas A&M University’s main campus in College Station, Texas. By mid-2026, Verizon plans to complete up to four new sites as part of a large-scale project to build new equipment sites throughout campus, installing innovative and powerful new radios and antennas to reach more campus locations, boosting both 4G and 5G coverage and capacity. The project also includes installing new battery backup equipment to further enhance the reliability of Verizon’s campus cellular service. This project will start in areas around Kyle Field and then move across campus. Verizon is also committing to support Texas A&M in addressing in-building cellular coverage and capacity.
Technology Services will work closely with Verizon Wireless to manage the installation process and ensure antennas are placed for optimal coverage and performance. “Maintaining strong relationships with cellular carriers is essential for ensuring the campus cellular network incorporates the latest technology such as using new wideband spectrum to deliver a blazing fast state-of-the-art 4G and 5G user experience, and for addressing performance issues to ensure reliable cellular service for our campus community,” said Nash Higgins, IT Network Architect for Technology Services.
Further updates will be provided as the project nears completion. If you have any questions, please contact Help Desk Central at 979.845.8300 or helpdesk@tamu.edu.
