For the full Microsoft 365 Copilot experience, you can purchase a Copilot license for your Microsoft account for an additional fee. The Copilot license allows Copilot to be embedded into popular Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) and offers a more integrated experience with AI. 

Copilot licenses are billed annually and expire on August 31. Annual prices are prorated for partial-year subscriptions.

What is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

It's an AI-driven feature seamlessly integrated within Microsoft's suite of apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. It assists users with tasks like writing, editing, summarizing, note taking, creating data visualizations, presentations, searching, managing inboxes, and more.

Why Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Technology Services aims to leverage cutting-edge technology and innovative methodologies to boost productivity. This pilot project aims to assess the practicality and broader applications of generative AI technologies at Texas A&M by experimenting with artificial intelligence in partnership with our campus community. The pilot is focused on using generative AI in widely-used tools like Outlook, Teams, Word, and PowerPoint, to improve productivity, boost creativity, and simplify workflows.

Who is using Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Technology Services tested Copilot licenses with hundreds of campus members from May 2024 to August 2025. Pilot testers represented units across campus. During the pilot testing program, Technology Services hosted training sessions, investigated how units used their Copilot license, shared use cases with other pilot participants and gathered overall feedback.

Web vs. M365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot license vs. Microsoft Copilot Chat

We understand you may have questions about the differences between a Microsoft 365 Copilot license and Microsoft Copilot Chat. Copilot Chat is a separate product that comes with Microsoft’s A5 licensing at no additional charge for Texas A&M employees and students. Microsoft 365 Copilot is an additional license where Copilot is embedded into popular apps (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.) offering a more integrated experience with AI. It is available to Texas A&M employees for an additional fee.

Microsoft 365 Copilot includes a suite of tools, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc. When using Copilot through these applications and logged in with your Texas A&M NetID and password, your data is protected through the same security and policies as our Office 365 environment (which protects HIPAA and FERPA data).

The applications that connect with Microsoft 365 Copilot are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Teams.

Once your license is purchased and activated, it may take up to five days for Microsoft 365 Copilot to show up in all your applications. You do not need to install or enable it on your device.
